Iliad Bot is one of my favorite personal projects. "The Iliad" happens to be one of my favorite books of all time, and my personal copy is well worn from years of love. For this project, I decided to reread the epic and focus specifically on lines that I thought would make for good tweets. After I finished the book, I went through each sticky note mark and hand-coded every line that I wanted to be in the bot. It was a labor of love and took several months to finish from conception to completion.
As you can see, I never followed anyone using Iliad Bot to gain followers. Instead, I advertised the bot on various Reddit forums and on Tumblr to gain followers. From there, retweets and Twitter's algorithm along with occasional Tumblr "ads" helped me steadily gain followers. I never thought this bot would get over 100 followers let alone over 1000!

Lyric bots are pretty popular on Twitter, but I was never able to find one for one of my favorite bands, Bastille. I decided to create it myself! This bot was created by going through the lyrics of every single song they have ever released and hand-coding them into the bot.
Similarly to my Iliad Bot, I only ever followed the band members with this account. Instead, I advertised its existence on Reddit and Tumblr, and also commented on a few Bastille posts in order to gain followers.
